BANGKOK 13 May 2014 – Caretaker Prime Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisan stated that he is ready to negotiate with the opposition parties in order to move the country forward.
Mr. Niwatthamrong stated that he has presented the idea of negotiating with the protesters who are trying to topple the current government, while also adding that he does not believe a civil war would ensue.
He went on to reaffirm that he will hold talks with the Election Commission (EC) in order to ensure the next general election is still on track and set to be held on July 20, 2014.
Vice President of the Senate Surachai Liengboonlertchai, who is now the Acting President of the Senate, said that he will present a roadmap to resolve the current political situation. However, he has not yet fully disclosed the details of the plan at this moment.
Mr. Niwatthamrong added that he will perform his new premiership to the best of his abilities and according to the rule of law. Moreover, he stated that he would try and eliminate the concerns that the country could enter into a civil war.
