SUKHOTHAI, 12 May 2014 — The province of Sukhothai has organized a circumambulation for Buddhists, at its historical park on the night of Visakha Bucha Day.

Thousands of local residents and tourists on Tuesday night flocked over the ruins of Wat Mahathat temple, at the historical park in the old quarter of Sukhothai’s city to join in the marching around the holy stupa.

Earlier in the day, the city held an alms offering ceremony at dawn for Buddhists, who wished to make merit and pay respect to monks on the holy day.

The Visakha Bucha day is one of the most important days in Buddhism. Three important incidents in the life of The Lord Buddha – birth, enlightenment, and death happened on the same month and date. Buddhists throughout the world have for centuries gathered together at holy places on that day to pay respect to the Lord Buddha and his teachings.
