PHUKET, 21 May 2014 – The annual evacuation practice to escape a threatening tropical cyclone and storm surges, was conducted at Phuket Marine Biological Center on May 21.
Phuket Deputy Governor Seri Panichkul presided over the 2014 natural disaster evacuation drill project at Phuket Marine Biological Center. This year, the project, jointly organized by Phuket Marine Biological Center and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office 18, focused on evacuation procedures during a tropical cyclone and storm surge in real locations.
Students, the public, entrepreneurs and tourists who live in the risk-prone areas of Moo 6, 7 and 8 in Vichit sub-district were called to practice the drill, and relocate to an evacuation school which is about 5 km. away. Krabi and Trang provinces also attended the evacuation drill as the project is at provincial group level.
