The cold air mass covering upper Thailand is weakening, although chilly weather remains the case on mountaintops in the North and Northeast. Meanwhile, people continue to shop for winter gear at border markets in Surin and Bueng Kan.
The cool weather has prompted many people to visit Chong Chom border market in Kap Choeng district of Surin province to search for winter clothes and blankets. Second-hand items sold by Cambodian vendors proved to be especially popular, with prices ranging from 20 baht to several hundred baht per item, depending on their condition.
Temperature screening points have been set up at Chong Chom border market and disease control criteria are observed in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Visitors were also reportedly being more mindful of public health measures. Tourism and commerce at the border in Surin have revitalized somewhat, with many now expecting the border between Thailand and Cambodia to be reopened sooner rather than later.
In Bueng Kan, the Thai-Lao flea market in the capital district of the province has seen the arrival of many shoppers in tandem with the weather cooling down. The early morning temperature was recorded at 15 degrees Celsius this morning (7 Dec) and winds were blowing strongly, creating an opportune time for sellers of winter clothes at the flea market. Many sellers had brought items from Rong Kluea wholesale market in Sa Kaeo, and were retailing them at 50-250 baht apiece.
