A newly released Thai film called 4 Kings has so far received positive feedback from its portrayal of student gang rivalry inside Thailand’s vocational schools. The police are concerned this film could provoke imitations among the existing student gangs, resulting in more cases of fights and violence.
The Royal Thai Police has stepped up their efforts to prevent fights and violence between rival student gangs from different vocational schools, as they receive more frequent reports of these incidents.
In a video conference on Tuesday, police deputy inspector general Pol Lt Gen Panurat Lakboon said the increasing incidents could be influenced by the recently premiered film 4 Kings, which tells the story of student gang rivalry.
To help prevent future incidents, the police will be discussing with school executives the true message of this film, and remind them the film serves as a snapshot of a particular time in society. The main intention is not to provoke violence.
Officers will be deployed to monitor vocational schools while asking cinemas to increase their security protection to prevent fights inside the venues.
On whether this particular film will face a screening ban, the deputy police inspector general says such a ban is not necessary. (NNT)
