PATTANI, 10 June 2014, – Local media has reported seven hurt in two separate incidents in Pattani and Yala provinces, in the latest instances of southern violence.

Four Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center officials and a local man were wounded in a separatist ambush, while they were in a van at Baankhokwoaw in Kapho District of Pattani Province. The wounded were quickly sent to a nearby medical center for treatment.

Meanwhile, residents of Bunnangsta District in Yala helped transport a volunteer security officer and a bystander to the local hospital after the two were wounded in a suspected separatist attack in the area’s Baanthanyong, while they were riding a motorcycle back from the nearby woods. Officials speculated the attack was a further attempt to intimidate the locals.

In a related matter, inquisitors of the 41st Ranger Squadron have revealed the initial result of an inquiry into the activities of the two suspects arrested in Yala’s Muang District, while in possession of bomb components on June 5th, saying the duo were, indeed, bomb makers for the separatists. The bombers confessed that their leader had instructed them to rig several explosives in preparation for an assault on an unidentified location.
