Near Pins: No 5 Pierre Bietry, No 8 Bill Peach, No 12 Bill Peach, No 16 Claude Harder.
Ludovic Henninot knew the round was out there, it just hadn’t been answering the call. Well it heard him today as he scorched the course with 40 points for the top spot in A Flight. Every bit of that scorching was required as a sublime day had the field tightly bunched and Ludovic was followed into the barn in quick succession by B Flight’s Claude Harder and the Donkey, both with creditable 39 point returns.
Colin Davis and Christy Knight.
The Donkey seems to have misplaced his count back luck as he lost out again to Claude, who also managed a near pin which he slotted home for a 2. Mickey ‘nine holes Beresford rounded out the B Flight with a bronze winning 38 points.
Returning to the senior circuit and Freddy Starbeck was the silver recipient with a very useful 38 points. Yui Bietry, Eddy ‘the Eagle’ and Bruce Anderson were log jammed on 35 points and Bruce and Eddy generously stood aside and let the ladies before gents rule apply.
Bruce Anderson and William Peach shared the 2’s pot with Claude.
Tuesday, June 3, Bangpra – Stableford
A Flight
1st Pierre Bietry (16) 36pts
2nd Tom Byrne (16) 35pts
3rd Colin Davis (16) 32pts
B Flight
1st Christy Knight (23) 37pts
2nd Aiden Murray (20) 36pts
3rd Don Lehmer (13) 36pts
Ireland’s Christy ‘good’ Knight was the only man to better his handicap at the always tough Bangpra as he took B Flight and the man of the match honours. Aiden Murray and Don ‘the ladies man’ Lehmer weren’t far behind him, both on even-par rounds. Aiden got the nod in the count back to pick up the silver leaving Don with the bronze.
Pierre ‘the magician’ Bietry waved a bit of magic as his even-par round took the top spot on the A Flight podium. Ireland’s Tom Byrne landed the silver a shot back as the Donkey carted off the bronze with 32 points.
Terry Mangan and Ludovic Henninot shared the 2’s pot.
Wednesday, June 4, St. Andrews – Stableford
A Flight
1st Colin Davis (16) 41pts
2nd Freddy Starbeck (13) 40pts
B Flight
1st Gerry Roche (20) 37pts
2nd Christy Knight (23) 35pts
Colin ‘the Donkey’ Davis provided further evidence that he can play despite the mantle of leadership, as Sunday’s second was followed by Tuesday’s third and culminated with today’s first. His 41 points was one shot clear of Freddy ‘the quite one’ Starbeck.
B Flight was a all Irish affair with Gerry ‘the Irish rover’ Roche stood atop the podium with 37 points. Tuesday’s top man Christy ‘good’ Knight rounded out the flight.
Both Gerry and Christy slotted home a 2, along with Bruce Anderson (a pair), Mike Jefferys and Ian Steele.
Friday, June 6,
Crystal Bay C & A – Stableford
A Flight
1st Thierry Petrement (13) 39pts
2nd Maurice Roberts (12) 39pts
3rd Takeshi Hakozaki (12) 34pts
B Flight
1st Ulrik Sinding (26) 41pts
2nd Ludovic Henninot (15) 39pts
3rd Colm O’Donovan (19) 39pts
The week concluded with a trip to Crystal Bay and both three-man flight podiums were left to the perils of count back. Nice Guy Thierry Petrement edged Maurice Roberts in the senior flight, both on the top score of the day 39 points, but Maurice wasn’t too concerned as he slotted home two 2’s as way of a consolation. Takeshi Hakozaki filled the flight on 34 points.
B Flight provided the man of the match in Ulrik Sinding with a splendid 41 points. Ulrik was two clear of three players log-jammed on 39 points; Ludovic Henninot, Colm O’Donovan and Ireland’s best dressed golfer, Christy ‘good’ Knight. The resulting count back saw Ludovic and Colm filling the minor places in that order as the luck of the Irish ran out for Christy. He did however get a pat on the back and a ‘bad luck mate’ from his pal Jimmy.
Ludovic Henninot, Mike Jefferys and Rod Brown shared the 2’s pot with Maurice.
The Donkey won the monthly golfer award in a playoff with Rod Brown.
