BANGKOK, 14 June 2014 – The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has issued a statement, announcing its policy on the country’s justice system, urging all courts to be impartial and uphold the rule of law.
Issuing its 63rd announcement, the NCPO, led by Army Chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, has asked justice related agencies to abide by the rule of law, uphold impartiality, and encourage peace and reconciliation.
All courts have also been asked not to take sides when dealing with legal cases. The NCPO’s justice policy is to ensure that people are treated fairly and equally regardless of their political viewpoints. It also urged all agencies assigned to handle legal cases to carry out their duties with integrity and without bias in order to avoid deepening the years-long political conflict in the Thai society.
