Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha praised two Thai doctors for winning prizes from the World Health Organization for their dedication to the Thai public health which is thus internationally recognized.



Government deputy spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul said Gen Prayut congratulated Pro Dr Prakit Vathesatogkit for winning the Dr Lee Jong-wook Memorial Prize for the internationally recognized effectiveness of his anti-smoking campaigns and Dr Paisan Ruamviboonsuk, an ophthalmologist at Rajavithi Hospital, for his Sasakawa Health Prize for detecting diabetic retinopathy and considerably reducing the number of patients suffering diabetes-induced blindness.


Both doctors will receive the prizes during the 75th World Health Assembly in May. Officials concerned have yet to decide if the assembly should be organized onsite in Geneva or online. (TNA)
