Bands recently rocked Garden International School (GIS) at the annual Band Slam event.

Groups from GIS, REPS and St Andrew’s played original songs and covers in GIS’s newly-refurbished main hall. Fans cheered and danced as the musicians took to the stage, and produced some impressive guitar solos and singing.

Judges included Mr Dom (Head of Secondary at REPS), Ms Gill (veteran rock ‘star’) and HyoJung (a Grade 8 pianist who recently finished her IB studies at GIS).

Upside Down was the first of the school bands to perform.Upside Down was the first of the school bands to perform.

After the judges had added together their scores, the winner was White Jack, who won an 8-hour recording session at Karma Sound Studio in Bang Saray (www. karmasoundstudios.com). Runners-up were Alphabeat and in third spot were Apollo. The runners-up were given a five-hour session at Karma. Apollo also won the prize for best original song.

Hot dogs sold at the event will help raise money towards Operation Smile, which helps children born with cleft palates. So far GIS has raised more than 10,000 baht – more than enough to change at least one child’s life.
