The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has insisted that no lockdown will be imposed to bring the current wave of infections under control, even as the Ministry of Public Health raises its COVID alert to Level 4.
According to a Facebook post by Health Ministry Spokesperson Rungrueng Kijphati, a meeting of the ministry’s Emergency Operation Center (EOC) concluded that the COVID alert level should be raised nationwide. It also resolved to step up containment measures in high-risk areas.
The move comes amid a surge in Omicron coronavirus infections and severe cases and fatalities. Authorities have also noted an increasing risk of infection among friends and family members taking part in group activities like dining out and attending weddings.
Members of the public are urged to work from home, avoid mass gatherings and non-essential travel between provinces, and suspend overseas trips. (NNT)
