Police and city officials visit a household where they present a mother with her ailing child with food and medical supplies.

Pattaya’s police chief checked out an occupational-training program aimed at keeping youths off drugs in South Pattaya.

Pol. Col. Kullachart Kullachai, his deputies and leaders of the Soi Korphai Community reviewed the work of the program, which includes growing mushrooms and making flower and ribbon garlands.

The idea is that people can grow vegetables or make garlands and sell them for extra income. The time spent will give younger residents something to do other than do drugs, project organizers believe.

The police chief also handed out bags of rice, dried foods, drinking water and diapers to families on Soi Korphai 2 and 11.
