The local branch of the YWCA, led by Chairwoman Praichit Jetpai, organized a charity walk/run event on Saturday, June 21 along the Pattaya beachfront.

Poramet Ngamphichet, Chonburi Member of the House of the Representatives, sent the competitors on their way along the sandy shoreline from a start point opposite the Central Beach shopping mall.  The route took the athletes northwards up to the Amari Pattaya and Dusit Thani resorts before returning back to the start/finish line.  Deckchair operators and food vendors had already complied with requests from City Hall to clear the beach area to allow the event to take place.

The walk/run was well attended and included a healthy number of local civil servants, local politicians and personnel from related organizations, who all gave up part of their weekend to do their bit for worthy causes.

Winners and runners-up pose on stage with their HRH Princess Soamsavali trophies.

The race itself was divided into 4 age and gender related categories with Anan Promsene and Waraporn Jatwisit winning the male and female under 15’s titles respectively and Sap Singhkaraha and Anyamanee Glapajan taking the male and female senior honours.  Trophies, kindly sponsored by Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsavali, were presented to the winners and runners up by the mayor of Pattaya, Itthipol Khunplome.

All money raised from the walk/run event will be used to support activities and projects that help disadvantaged children and women, such as the Loving and Supportive Family Project that provides scholarships to underprivileged students and assists children with special-needs.
