BANGKOK, 2 July 2014  – Dr. Pornthep Siriwanarangsun, Director-General of the Department of Health has advised that using tissue paper to absorb oil in dishes of cooked food is safe. The Director recommends using paper which is manufactured for use in the kitchen and is certified HACCP, which is the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point standard.

However, some other kinds of paper such as recycled tissue are not safe to use when handling cooked food. This is because Sodium hydroxide, Chlorine and Dioxin are used during the recycling process and on the production line. The chemicals used in production are considered to be carcinogenic which is a serious threat to a person’s health.
