BANGKOK, 2 July 2014 – At the daily press conference of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) at Government House today, Dr. Yongyuth Maiyalap, of the NCPO’s public relations unit revealed that the NCPO committee has been notified of an agreement between the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and Bangkok Metro Public Company Limited, the operator of the MRT Subway in Bangkok, to delay a rise in train fares for another 4 months.
The extension means the MRT fares will remain between 16-40 Baht, despite the regular 2-year price progression. However, this price freeze is only until October 2014. The extension was made because of the country’s current economic status and to spare commuters the necessity of higher spending on transportation at this time.
After October 2014, the new fares will still start at 16 Baht and only reach 42 Baht depending on the distance; this new range of fares will be effective for another 24 months once the new prices take effect in October.
