BANGKOK, 6 June 2011 – The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) under the Ministry of Commerce has decreased the recommended prices of eggs in all sizes by 10 satang each effective from Monday onwards while pork price is found to decline.
According to Permanent Secretary for Commerce Yanyong Puangrach, the egg price reduction was made because layer hens are producing more eggs to the market after the weather has become more stable. Farm price of mixed sized eggs is now at 2.80 baht each.
Egg supplies from now on are expected to increase further. Egg prices might be lowered by additional 10 satang in the next two weeks. Mr Yanyong said there was no need to summon egg entrepreneurs to discuss price hikes anymore.
Meanwhile, retail pork price is found to reduce slightly as it is now sold at 130-135 baht a kilogram. Farm-gate price for live pig stands at 69-70 baht. The DIT will convene a meeting of pork related entrepreneurs again this week to evaluate pork price.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva earlier asked the Ministry of Commerce to seek directions to reduce the egg prices by 20 satang each because of the currently rising egg supplies to the market.
