BANGKOK, July 8 — Investment projects worth about Bt300 billion were proposed to seek promotional privileges in the first half of this year, according to Board of Investment (BoI) secretary-general Udom Wongviwatchai.
Mr Udom said that foreign investors were building up confidence in Thailand as investment projects worth about 300 billion baht were proposed to seek promotional privileges from the board in the first half of this year.
He said the BoI maintained its expectation to receive requests from investors’ projects worth Bt700 billion this year.
In the first six months of this year it already accepted investment projects worth about Bt300 billion for consideration.
The projects centre on service, automobile, chemical product, electrical and electronic product and transport sectors.
He also said that after the military takeover by the National Council for Peace and Order, arrivals of foreign investors from the United States and Europe were improving compared with those in the same period last year.
Investors now are paying more attention to long-term investment and economic fundamentals in Thailand rather than local political problems, Mr Udom said.
