The Department of Medical Services encourages Thai women to conduct self-examination of their breasts monthly to stay safe from breast cancer which is considered as the most dangerous cancer of Thai women.
The National Cancer Institute under the department said breast cancer was the most common cancer of women in Thailand and worldwide, so women should do self-breast examination on a monthly basis to find if there were any abnormalities such as the changing sizes or shapes of breasts, rashes on nipples and bleeding ulcers. Early diagnosis could lead to a cure.
The institute said that officials concerned had not discovered an exact cause of breast cancer but found connection between it and risky behaviors including the consumption of food with high fat content, the lack of exercise and alcohol consumption. There were also uncontrollable factors such as genetic disorder and aging, it said.
The institute released its advice as model Anyaphat “Nookzii” Wattanatantirat died of breast cancer at the age of 34 after receiving treatment over the past year. She was diagnosed with stages 2-3 of the cancer in March last year. The cancer expanded to her brain last month.
She was the girlfriend of singer Arnon Saisangchan aka Pu Blackhead and was named Top Pretty Thailand in 2016. (TNA)
