BANGKOK, 11 July 2014  – More rains are expected across Thailand, with strong waves sighted in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

The Meteorological Department reported that the southwestern monsoon continues to prevail over both coasts and will generate up to 4 meter high waves. All shipping activities should proceed with caution and small boats should be kept ashore.

From July 12-14, the monsoon will weaken, generating waves only up to 2 meters high. Fishermen are, nonetheless, urged to exercise extra caution as strong winds brought on by thunderstorms can create high waves in some areas.

The North, Northeast, East, and parts of the South are expected to see less rain on average but heavy rains will continue in a number of areas. Local residents are advised to follow weather updates.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Neoguri continues to weaken over Japan, but it still poses a risk to the nation with heavy rain and possible mudslides. Three people have already been killed so far. Thai travelers who plan to visit Japan are urged to carefully monitor the situation.
