A 10-year-old girl unable to swim drowned in a South Pattaya condominium pool after diving into the deep end.
Angkana Phanchaem was pronounced dead at Pattaya Memorial Hospital May 24 after being rescued from the swimming pool at Pattaya Center Condotel.
The girl’s mother, Rianthong Iam-mat, said she was working as a custodian at the Chaimongkol Temple next door when her daughter’s friend Chonlada came to tell her of the accident. Apparently she and Angkana had gone swimming as they had done many times. While they always stayed in the shallow end before, for some reason, Chonlada said, Angkana jumped into the deep end, which is 3 meters deep at one point.
Unable to swim, the girl drowned. Rianthong said she had no plans to press any charges against condominium management or the girl’s friend.
