SUPHANBURI, 30 July 2014 – Supeepat Chongpanich, the Governor of Suphan Buri Province has disclosed that the province has piloted the ‘5 Precepts Village’, a project implementing the five guiding precepts of Buddhist teachings, hoping to create reconciliation and unity within the society. Households in each district in the province are encouraged to participate.

The Five Precepts constitute the basic Buddhist code of ethics, which are: 1. To abstain from killing. 2. To abstain from taking what is not given. 3. To abstain from sexual misconduct. 4. To abstain from false speech. 5. To abstain from fermented drinks.

The campaign is in line with the NCPO’s main policy to promote unity and reconciliation in Thai society.

These will be pilot villages which will fully implement Buddhist teachings in their daily community life, and boost the morality in villagers.
