BANGKOK, 31 July 2014 – The Election Commission (EC) is ready to accept nominations of members who would make up the National Reform Council (NRC).

Election Commissioner Puchong Nutrawong said the EC is fully prepared to vet candidates for seats in the council. On July 4, the EC is slated to hold a meeting with EC directors from provinces across Thailand on the selection process.

The interim constitution states that the NRC would consist of no more than 250 members hand-picked by the NCPO from the nominations made by selection committees. A representative from each of Thailand’s 77 provinces as chosen by provincial selection committees will be included in the reform council.

There will be 11 groups of the selection committees to nominate individuals from among 11 professional groups, and a provincial selection committee per each province to select individuals from respective provinces.

This Saturday, the NCPO will also host a special program via the Television Pool of Thailand to publicize the application process for positions in the NRC.
