Tours organized at Phan district, center of earthquake

CHIANG RAI, 1 August 2014  – Chiang Rai is planning to organize three cultural and nature tour programs to attract tourists and seek sufficient money to renovate the temples damaged by the earthquake that happened on the 5th of May.

After an earthquake measuring 6.3 richter scale occurred at Huai Sai sub district, Phan district, Chiang Rai on the 5th of May, damage was caused to 8,107 house, 75 temples, 21 schools and 2 mosques. Both the government and private sectors initially provided assistance to residents with damaged houses. However, the temples are waiting for sufficient budget for renovation to begin.

Phan district chief officer Samrith Sawamiphak, therefore, consulted with the vice governor and decided to organize tour programs along three routes to seek income to be used for the renovation of the temples. The routes lead to famous temples in the Phan district such as Phra Trat Jom Wae temple, Than Thong temple, Pa Ruak temple and Charoen Muang temple as well as to natural tourist attractions such as Nam Lod waterfall, Poo Kaeng waterfall and Pha Yao cave.
