On March 18th, Pattaya Sports Club held its annual Charity Classic golf competition at Green Valley. Each year, for the last 15 years, the Charity Classic has raised millions of baht and many handicapped and underprivileged people have benefitted from the proceeds of this event.

This year was no exception and as a result of the effort by Joe Mooneyham – Golf Chairman of PSC – the club managed to raise 404,000 baht, every single baht of which will be given to charitable organisations.

This year the funds will be distributed as follows:

1) 50,000 baht will go to Golf Aid Charity and will be used to distribute essential items to those suffering from the severe flooding in the South of Thailand.

2) 130,000 baht to go to the Father Ray Foundation.  We hear all too often, of young children drowning along our shores and these funds will be used to teach children from the Blind School and the Day Care Centre how to swim, provide costumes and maintenance of the pools.

3) 60,000 baht to Hand to Hand. Margaret spends all her time helping others but, with more children having access to computers and the internet every day, she is now working with City Hall and the Police about a plan to educate children to the dangers of online liaisons.

4) 164,000 baht to the Special Education Centre.  Mentally and physically handicapped children are cared for at the centre and it is likely that most of the children will not be able to experience the simple pleasures of life like going to the market, beach or to see waterfalls.  Touch and being in contact with everyday experiences, most of us take for granted, are so important.  The funds will be used to have a mini zoo to enable children to experience how animals grow, develop and to expand their existing Adventure Room.

The Pattaya Sports Club would like to say a big thank you to their sponsors and all the PSC members that gave their support to making the 2011 Charity Classic golf competition a success.  If you would like to be a sponsor, which involves the golf day and all the charities that the PSC supports, please contact Joe Mooneyham at Pattaya Sports Club.
