Adam & the Ants, Blondie, Madness and Musical Youth were among just a few of the artists from yesteryear heard blaring out of the speakers at the TFi ‘Back to the 80s’ event held on Friday, August 8 at the Access Inn on Pattaya 3rd Road.

This was the 1st year anniversary for TFi (Thai Farang Initiative) and in the last 12 months the group has raised close to 500,000 baht and helped dozens of people in the community.  This ranges from assisting children born with cleft lips, to rebuilding a destitute man’s house, helping out a flood damaged orphanage, and providing funds to a foundation that looks after people affected with HIV/AIDS.  Much of the work has been done in collaboration with other organizations such as the Pattaya Sports Club, the Jesters, and Rotary.

On Friday night 200 people attended the event, many dressed in true 80s style with bright, gaudy colours and lots of big hair.  They were happy to cough up the entrance fee of 400/500 baht for 3 hours of free flow beer and wine plus musical entertainment provided by veteran DJ Dave D and Howard Millar.

There was also a raffle with some great prizes on offer, all kindly donated by local businesses, and an auction where an advertising contract for BuzzIn Pattaya and tickets to a Booze Cruise were successfully bidded by Graeme Jenkinson.

TFi have received fantastic support from the local business community in the last year and their model has created the perfect opportunity for companies, both small and large, to get involved.

Universal Group was the lead sponsor for the most recent ‘Back to the 80s’ event and they were joined by Mobile Advertising, Voova Group, CEA Project Logistics, Defense International Security Services, The Booze Lounge, Hometown Property, Siam Winery and of course the venue itself Access Inn.

This generous sponsorship means that more money can go to charity, and coupled with the funds raised from the raffle and the auction, it means that the event this month raised a whopping 113,000 baht for good causes.  Now the real work starts for the TFi team as they will use due diligence on how the money is to be used in the community.
