The first Thailand International Groundwater Symposium kicked off on Monday in Bangkok, under the theme Key to Water Security and Sustainability. This international meeting is aimed at promoting the exchange of know-how, experiences, research, innovations, and technologies on groundwater issues, and highlighting the importance of groundwater resources at the international level.

Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, said the technology Thailand possesses enables it to dig up groundwater as deep as 1,000 meters, which has helped farmers in many areas.

Despite its benefits of being a high-capacity water source, groundwater should be protected and conserved so that it does not run out, according to Minister Varawut.
