UNESCO Thailand compliments Phraya Sri Thammathirat Residence in Cultural Heritage Contest

BANGKOK, 2 September 2014 — Mr. Tim Curtis, the Director of UNESCO’s Thailand’s Cultural Heritage Section and head of the contest committee, has revealed that UNESCO Thailand had announced the result of the Asia and Pacific Cultural Heritage Contest 2014 to commemorate important persons and organizations, and cooperation between the government and the private sector. Forty-six projects had been submitted to the contest, and fourteen projects from ten countries were selected. None was awarded the first prize. However, the Award of Merit went to the project to reconstruct and renovate Saryazd Citadel in Iran. Honorable Mentions went to the Phraya Sri Thammathirat Residence in Thailand, the Exeter Farm in Australia, the Shri Sakhargad Niwasini Devi Temple Complex in India, the Frankton Boatshed in New Zealand, and the Wak Hai Cheng Bio Temple in Singapore. Complimentary awards went to the Shahzada Hussain Mausoleum in Afghanistan, the Cape Inscription Lighthouse Keepers’ Quarters in Australia, and the Rottnest Island World War II Coastal Defences in Australia.
