PSC golf from The Golf Club

Monday, August 25, Green Valley (white tees) – monthly medal

1st Wayne Cottrell (12) net 79

2nd Geoff Doody (19) net 81

3rd Henry O’Brien (17) net 81

Well, the dark clouds and the threat of rain for the last week finally reared its’ ugly head.  We got drenched!  The good thing about a Thai dousing and a British one is about 25 degrees – Celsius that is.  We usually get round to finish eventually and get rained out only 1 or 2 times a year so we can’t really complain about our near-perfect micro climate here in Pattaya.

Only the first group off managed to finish, but that’s the way it goes sometimes.  Wayne Cottrell joins us with his fourball just about every Monday and for his steadfastness becomes our Monthly Medal winner for August.  A nice dry Antigua shirt is waiting here for you mate!

Reminder- if you did not see our September schedule, we are off to Kabinburi next week on the 11th and 12th for the road trip, so sign up quickly please.

Wednesday, August 27, Burapha C & D (blue tees) – Stableford

1st Thierry Danzas (21) 29pts

2nd Paul Tudor (0) 28pts

3rd Walter Baechli (16) 27pts

Yes, you read it right, Burapha C & D from the blues turned out to be a tough old slog.  It certainly is a different course, as they say, and nobody even got to the 30 point mark on a day of interesting frustrations.  Don’t get me wrong, the field was happy to tee off from the blues and welcomed the challenge.

The course was in pretty good shape in spite of the recent weather.  On the other side of the road, Laem Chabang was covered by black clouds all day so the luck of the draw gave us the right choice of courses.

The colourful Walter Baechli took third spot today with his 27 point endeavour.  Easy going Walter is always fun to play with and keeps a smile on his face and a positive attitude for the whole round.  Next up the ladder was GolfAsian’s own Paul Tudor.  This guy is a real golfer and plays off scratch, must be nice!  Paul turned in 28 points for second.

The winner and handicap-dropper again was Thierry “The French Connection” Danzas whose 29 points was the best we could muster on this brutal course.  Thierry is poised to get below a 20 handicap as his game keeps improving and his scoring gets better.

Friday, August 29, Pattavia (white tees) – Stableford

1st Peter Rogers (22) 36pts

2nd Michael Ramirez (22) 33pts

3rd Robbie Taylor (15) 32pts

3rd David Ferris (24) 32pts

News flash – the road is paved!  Well, not all of it, but those killer potholes are nearly all gone and by the time you read this, it may all be finished.  A big section from the 331 has been completely resurfaced and the improvement is fantastic.  Personally, I think the U-turn after the Shell station is the best way in, going through all the fields of Pattavia pineapples, from which the course gets its name.

This golf course just keeps getting better (not any easier though!) and when we played it she was in great shape.  It was surprisingly quiet out there today for such a nice golf course that is great value.  If you are not aware, the new clubhouse is already open.

We had a small turnout of 3 groups today as we are hopefully coming out of the low season depression.  But hey, it’s quality not quantity so off we went at our scheduled 9:30 tee time.

We had Michael Ramirez joining us today and the young Angelino from Bangkok had a very respectable 33 on the card.  A shot back was Robbie Taylor and Dave Ferris on 32 to tie for third, must be those tricky greens mate.

Winner on the day was TGC regular Peter Rogers who smoked the field by 3 shots and his 36 took him to the top of the podium.  Well done Pete, and thanks to all who joined us at The Golf Club this week for more golf in Amazing Thailand!
