The Ministry of Transport today hosted the APEC Transportation Working Group Meeting, as part of a series of APEC meetings hosted by Thailand this year.
The Ministry of Transport kicked off the 52nd APEC Transportation Working Group (TPTWG52) meeting, in an opening ceremony presided by Minister of Transport Saksayam Chidchob.
The meeting is now taking place from today to 16 September in a hybrid format under the theme Seamless, Smart, and Sustainable Transportation; with in-person sessions taking place at Pullman Bangkok King Power Hotel.
Speaking after the ceremony, the Minister of Transport said the meeting discussed the TPTWG Strategic Action Plan 2022-2025 which outlines development frameworks and guidelines, together with relevant actions and projects.
The meeting serves as a platform for exchange between expert groups in maritime, aviation, land, and intermodal and intelligent transportation systems. It aims to promote infrastructure connectivity in all modes of transportation, with a priority on environmentally friendly transportation in line with the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) economic model.
The Ministry of Transport on this occasion presented Thailand’s transportation development plans for the land, water, rail, and air, as well as the country’s 20-year national strategy that positions Thailand as a key logistics hub for Southeast Asia.
Large-scale projects in Thailand were also presented at this meeting, including the Chumphon-Ranong land bridge connecting the coasts of the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. This project is currently in the design phase.
The government is expected to invite private firms for co-investment after the Cabinet’s approval, with completion scheduled for 2030.
At a later stage, the Ministry of Transport aims to hold roadshows in foreign countries to promote this campaign, particularly in countries with large maritime shipping companies such as the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Japan, China, and the United Kingdom. (NNT)
