Pattaya is cracking down on beach vendors and watercraft operators as the high season nears.
Deputy Mayor Wuthisak Rermkijakarn and municipal police chief Pol. Maj. Jeerawat Sukontasap led a team of regulatory officials to the beachfront Sept. 20 amid complaints about vendors taking over the beach and ignoring regulations.

Kites were their first target: Pattaya allows beachchair renters to also rent kites, but the anchor poles must be within their nine-by-seven-meter plots. Instead, poles jutted out of the sand willy-nilly across the sand.

Wuthisak told the vendors to move the poles and keep them there.
The team then corralled speedboat and jet ski operators and reminded them that boats haven’t been allowed on the beach for years. They admitted city hall cut the operators some slack during the Covid-19 pandemic, but that leniency is over. The boats were told to return to the pier.

As for jet skis, the warnings were given again – for the second time in two months – that jet skis cannot be brought up onto the sand and must be anchored offshore.

Wuthisak vowed there would be continued enforcement of the regulations – which rarely has been the case – and more ticket-writers would be deployed on the beach daily.
