The Department of Highways has upgraded a segment of a highway between Chumphon and Ranong provinces to increase road safety and improve connectivity.
The department has unveiled a 17.75-kilometer section of Highway 4 that has been upgraded to a dual carriageway with four lanes by the Bureau of Highway Construction 1. The work was done in areas of tambon Sai Daeng and Bang Non in Ranong’s Muang district to improve sections of Highway 4 (also known as Phetkasem Road), a 1,277-kilometer highway that connects Bangkok to the Thai-Malaysian border at Sadao district in Songkhla province.
According to the department, the improvements will help minimize traffic accidents and fuel consumption for transportation, as well as promote economic activity along the west coast, particularly in tourism and agriculture. The project is also part of the government’s endeavor to enhance connectivity throughout the country to boost Thailand’s competitiveness. (NNT)
