At least 36 people have died in a mass shooting at a daycare center in Nong Bualamphu, including the gunman who later killed himself and his family members.
The shooting started at a daycare center in Uthai Sawan subdistrict, from which the gunman fled to his home where he killed his wife and his 2-year-old son before committing suicide. At least 36 people have died from this tragic incident, including those killed while the gunman was making his way home.
The gunman identified as Pol Sgt Panya Khamrab was a former policeman at Na Wang Provincial Police Station. He had previously been arrested and fired from his position for his alleged involvement with illicit drugs.
Dr. Opas Karnkawingpong, Permanent Secretary of Public Health, said the Ministry of Public Health has sent officials to care for the mental health of the living victims and family members, as this incident is considered a traumatic event.
The Royal Thai Police and the Department of Mental Health are asking the general public to refrain from sharing pictures and video clips of the incident, out of respect for the victims’ families.
The Department of Mental Health says the forwarding of violent images could cause widespread mental health impacts in society and cause panic among local residents. It could worsen the condition of those affected by stress or other mental health issues when they are repeatedly exposed to images of violence. (NNT)
