The first Pattaya AR event will be the Pattaya Fireworks Festival in late November.

Tourists soon will be able to view Pattaya in augmented reality thanks to a mobile app set to launch next month.

Athinat Wattanaphrom, executive of Protective Labs, Co., said Oct. 24 that the Pattaya AR mobile application will allow users to use their cellphone cameras to view all of Pattaya with 3D objects and information laid on top to help them navigate and appreciate the city better.

The app is expected to launch for Android phones within days and later in November for iOS users.

At first, the only areas with augmented reality overlays will be Pattaya Beach and Walking Street, but Atinat said the plan is to cover the entire city eventually. The first AR event will be the Pattaya Fireworks Festival in late November.

The app will be free to download and use with the company hoping to make money from businesses that want to have their operations featured in the overlays.
