NAY PYI TAW, Sept 26 The Myanmar government has full confidence in Thailand’s interim government led by Gen Prayuth Chan-o-cha, especially regarding vital projects which concern both neighbouring countries, Thai ambassador to Yangon Pisanu Suvanajata said today.
Relations between the two countries are now “very good” after Gen Prayuth announced clearly that his administration would develop the economy with the neighbouring countries, making Myanmar believe that important projects which concern the two countries such as the Dawei deep seaport and the Dawei industrial estate would continue, said Mr Pisanu.
He said there are signs that the Dawei project as well as other economic cooperation programmes between the two countries would continue in line with their policies and strategies which happen to assist each other, said Mr Pisanu.
This include making the two countries’ border a special economic zone.
His remarks were made as Gen Prayuth prepares to visit Myanmar around mid-October as his first destination among international trips to introduce himself as Thailand’s new prime minister.
The two countries are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Touching on security such as narcotics trafficking along the border, Mr Pisanu said more arrests have been made, resulting from exchanges of information, while the Thai government has repatriated more Myanmar nationals who have fled fighting in their country.
