SURATTHANI, 28 September 2014 The Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul is planning to establish tourism development guidelines for the three popular islands, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan and Koh Samui.

The Minister visited Koh Tao in Surat Thani province after the case of the murders of two British tourists at the island about two weeks ago. The horrific incident has received world wide attention and the murderers are still at large. Since the tourism industry on these islands in the Gulf of Thailand has been growing rapidly and generating tens of billions of baht a year, it is very significant that the investigation of the double murder be completed, and charges laid. There is also a need for plans to be implemented to restore tourist confidence.

The Commander of Provincial Police Region 8 has revealed that about 20 witnesses have been questioned and he is convinced that the murderers will be arrested and brought to justice soon.
