Pattaya is preparing to reopen one of three Naklua intersections after roadwork wrapped up at the busy junction.
Deputy Mayor Manote Nongyai said Nov. 14 that the Sawang Fa Temple intersection will be reopened once the contractor hired to lay new drainage pipes under Sukhumvit Road at the junction pours new concrete and levels the roadway.
The intersection is one of three – Chaiyapornwithi and Sien Sua Naklua being the other two – that were closed due to the drainage-system project running between Soi Phothisan and the Naklua Canal.
The closures prompted widespread complaints from Naklua residents and businesses, saying it cut them off from customers and caused terrible inconvenience.
Pattaya officials countered that they had opened two new U-turns in the front of Esso gas station and Ban Suan Naklua at the entrance to Maryvit School. Locals were unimpressed.
Manote said that the plan always was to reopen each intersection as work crews made their way along Sukhumvit. All the pipes are now laid under Sawang Fa Road, so it can be reopened, allowing motorists heading south to turn right again.
