Cabinet approves 5 economic stimulus measures, hoping to stimulate the economy within 3 months

BANGKOK, 1 October 2014  Mom Rajawongse Pridiyathorn Devakula, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Economics reveals that the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday 1st October has approved 5 economic stimulating measures to create job opportunities. 

The first measure is to urge all government agencies to speed up signing of employment contracts which are still unable to be signed within the fiscal year of 2014. Secondly, all government sectors should hasten to sign within 3 months employment contracts which have been allocated with the 2015 investment budget of 129 billion baht. If all goes according to plans, about 30-40 percent of the budget will be disbursed within that period.

Thirdly, the ‘Strong Thailand’ budget and central budgets of 2012-2014, which have a cumulative amount of 23 billion baht, will be used for the restoration of schools and accommodations for civil servants of the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Defence. Fourthly, all government agencies are required to prepare project details for disbursing the 2005-2013 central budgets ( worth altogether 24 billion baht).

Lastly, the Cabinet also approved measures for the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives to disburse 40,000 million baht to help low-income farmers. Under this scheme, farmers with up to 15 rai of land will receive help at the rate of 1,000 baht per rai while those possessing more than that will only receive help at the maximum 15 rai. About 3.4 million farm families are eligible for support, and disbursement of the budget will start within 20th October. The total budget is at 290 billion baht.
