BANGKOK, 10 October 2014 HAKUHODO Institute of Life and Living ASEAN has revealed a research on ASEAN families’ changing trend.
HAKUHODO Institute of Life and Living ASEAN Bangkok organized ASEAN Sei-Katsu-Sha Forum 2014 revealing research findings on ASEAN family bahavior and emergence of a new type of family in the ASEAN region, at Swissotel Nai Lert Park, Bangkok.
With the launch of ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, 10 members are now facing changes in family behavior as a result of growing economy and urbanization.
The family type in ASEAN countries is transforming from an extended family to a small family; still they are closely connected with the help of smart technology gadgets.
According to the research, it is said that due to urbanization that forces some of family members living in rural areas to migrate to bigger cities, the extended family type that used to be characteristic of ASEAN society is now diffused to a smaller type of family, so-called nuclear family. Despite this fact, unlike other developed countries, the sense of devotion to family and members still does not change. With the help of smart technology through connection to social media, such as Facebook or Twitter or LINE, members of families who live in rural and urban areas can still perfectly connect.
As a result, while family members are not living under the same roof, the bond in this “connected” family still acts as a safety net like before but more privacy is kept to the family members.
