Labor Minister Gen. Surasak Kanjanarat checked on the progress of registering migrant workers and visited a company aggressively hiring handicapped workers during a visit to Chonburi.
The National Council for Peace and Order ordered the opening of “one-stop” service centers to help Chonburi employers register and legalize their illegal migrant laborers. To date, more than 100,000 migrants have been registered, Gov. Khomsan Ekachai told the general.

However, the governor noted, there are more than 1 million foreign workers in the province. Most are employed in agriculture, factories, retail sales and vehicle repair.
Khomsan said Chonburi actually has two centers, one at the Chalermprakiet Pavilion in Bangsai – responsible for the registration of the migrant workers in Panat Nikhom, Panthong, Muang and Banbung districts – and at the Eastern National Sports Training Center in Huay Yai for laborers in Banglamung, Sriracha, Sattahip, Bothong, Nong Yai, Koh Sichang and Koh Chan districts.
Surasak also visited Sony Technology (Thailand), which has hired 61 disabled employees and created an internship program to teach vocational skills to students. The one-year program offers the minimum wage, plus health insurance and a bonus upon completion.
