New Zealand tourist falls off Death Railway in Kanchanaburi

A New Zealand tourist accidentally fell off his train to death while it was on the Death Railway.
The fall happened when the train was on elevated tracks about 7-8 meters above the ground near the Krasae cave in Sai Yok district.

The dead tourist was identified as Patrick Ward, 45. The body sustained wounds caused by the fall. Local officials informed the New Zealand embassy in Thailand of his death.



Eyewitnesses said the foreigner was a member of a tour group. He boarded the Thonburi-Nam Tok train at the River Kwai train station.

At the plunge site, the train slowed down for tourists in and outside it to take pictures. At the moment, Ward opened a train door to take pictures but he accidentally fell from the train. (TNA)
