A six-metre long whale shark was seen off Koh Hong Island. When it appeared underneath a long-tail boat, the boat driver saw a large piece of rope, wrapping around its tail and cutting deep into its flesh. The whale shark swam near the boat around ten minutes before it disappeared.

The boat driver believes the whale shark approached his boat as it needed help, so he contacted national park officials to look for it around Hong Island and in Phang Nga Bay but to no avail.

Chief of Than Bok Khorani National Park, Weerasak Srisatchang, said whale sharks were often seen feeding on plankton off Hong Island. The area is rich in plankton, indicating the abundance of the sea there. (TNA)
