BANGKOK, Nov 5 –  Lawyers for former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra today asked the chair of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) to postpone the body’s consideration on her proposed impeachment concerning her roles in the loss-ridden rice-pledging scheme of her former government.

Lawyers Anek Khamchoom and Norawit Lalaeng filed their request at Parliament as the Assembly is scheduled to consider Ms Yingluck’s impeachment next Wednesday as the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) proposed.

The lawyers said that Ms Yingluck had not received a document detailing the NACC’s investigation and opinions in the case.

They said that the law required such a document to reach Ms Yingluck 15 days before the NLA considered the issue.

The lawyers also asked the NLA chairman to prohibit Assembly members from commenting or criticizing in public in  any way that could affect neutrality in the impeachment case.

Mr Anek said that the request was not aimed at buying time but was intended to seek careful legal actions and justice for the accused.

Accompanying the lawyers, Prompong Nopparit, former spokesman of Ms Yingluck’s Pheu Thai Party, said they were not making a political movement but were taking an action to protect Ms Yingluck’s rights.
