BANGKOK, 12 November 2014 – A number of Thai export items have been doing well this year, according to the Commerce Ministry.
Deputy Commerce Minister Apiradee Tantraphon said on Tuesday that the latest assessment by the Department of International Trade Promotion showed certain export products have been doing well this year, including plastic pellets, which are expected to register an on-year growth rate of 5.0%, and agricultural produce and machinery that have been well-received by regional markets.
Mrs. Apiradee conceded that some sectors, such as tyres, will suffer contraction because of the cutback in automotive production in Australia which resulted in a decline in imports of tyres from Thailand. However, she said that the situation is expected to see a recovery in 2015
The Deputy Commerce Minister added that the ministry has recently suggested the setting up of a border trade office in Mae Sot District of Tak Province, which will act as a one-stop service center to promote trade between Thailand and Myanmar.
