Armored-car driver arrested in ATM theft

An armored-car driver was arrested for allegedly stealing 2 million baht from an ATM he was supposed to restock.

Chaiyapruek Hunswad, an employee at Siam Administrative Management Co., was captured Nov. 11 after the robbery the day before at the Siam Commercial Bank ATM in a PTT gas station across from Tesco-Lotus in South Pattaya.

Samco provides cash management and armored transport for SCB and Chaiyapruek was transporting cash for the bank’s ATMs.

Police said he admitted to stealing about 2 million baht from the ATM. Police recovered 1.8 million baht with the suspect saying he’d spent some on personal items already.

Chaiyapruek was charged with theft, endangering lives and property, and receiving stolen goods.
