BANGKOK, 27 Nov 2014, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has urged the industrial sector to expand their investment in the southern border provinces. He has also reaffirmed that the government is listening to all sides regarding the Rubber Act draft.

A group of para rubber union earlier submitted a petition asking the officials to remove the Rubber Act draft from the charter content, saying that the Act was being written by academics and politicians, with no participation from rubber farmers. The group also claimed that the Act would cause them more harm than good them if approved and implemented.

The Prime Minister reassured them that his administration was open to all opinions regarding the charter drafting. However, the removal of the act could not be done, as it was being processed by the Constitution Drafting Committee. He stressed that the content could be adjusted and it was premature to assume that the Act would not benefit rubber farmers in general.

He stated that the industrial sector was one of the most important driving forces behind the local economy and urged the sector to find ways to reach out to the international community. He also invited the sector to invest more in the southern border provinces, saying the Government would offer them various benefits and perks. He did not disclose the details of the benefits, however.
