BANGKOK, Dec 2 — After the Cabinet meeting today, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said that he was not concerned about the Constitution Drafting Committee’s proposal for an amnesty bill to create national reconciliation.

He said that the idea did not come from him or his government.

“Personally I do not plan to develop a conflict with anyone, but I think that reconciliation is irrelevant to amnesty. Reconciliation should be free of any condition and finally amnesty for the political activists who have criminal cases will be subject to law,” the prime minister said.

Meanwhile, the subcommittee on law and justice reform resolved to push for the restructuring of the police. It proposed that the Royal Thai Police Office and the Police Commission be dissolved and a National Police Affairs Council be established.

Besides, police should be divided into central, regional and local police with authority to determine their own powers and duties.

The subcommittee also proposed that civilians take part in supervising police’s operations and transferring, removing, promoting and demoting them.
