Following the dredging of the South Pattaya canal and the digging of a new cache basin near the railway road, Pattaya City now is urgently moving to connect drainage pipes throughout the city to prevent flooding during next year’s rainy season.

The latest project is finishing connections of Thepprasit sois 6 and 7. The roadwork, which is causing heavy traffic congestion, is part of a larger Jomtien Beach-area project to extend the city’s drainage system, said Deputy Mayor Verawat Khakhay.

Pattaya has been severely affected by floods and people have been complaining heavily about it, as they are tired of the perennial problem, the deputy mayor acknowledged.

However, Sompob Wandee, director of the Water Quality Management Department said work is proceeding to receive runoff from Nongprue Sub-district’s higher elevations at the water-treatment plant before it is dispersed into the sea.
