BANGKOK, Dec 5 —  After learning that His Majesty the King canceled his public appearance and will not leave Siriraj Hospital today for an audience at the Amarin Winitchai Throne Hall on his 87th birthday, well-wishers wearing yellow shirts travelled all the way to the hospital and chanted “Long Live the King.”

The general atmosphere at Siriraj Hospital on the banks of Chao Phraya River has been very lively since early in the morning as well-wishers stared attentively at the top floor of the hospital where His Majesty the King is making his recovery.

They sang the Royal anthem, “San Sern Pra Baramee,” which translates as “Bless the King” in Thai and chanted “Long Live the King.”

The well-wishers said they intended  to travel to the hospital to extend their good wishes on his 87th birthday even after learning that the Royal Household Bureau had announced that His Majesty had cancelled every activity on his birthday at the his doctors’ request.

The Royal Household Bureau has allowed the public to sign book expressing best wishes at the Grand Palace from 8.30am to 4.30pm today while the extending wishes access at the hospital will be temporarily closed and reopen from Monday onward.
