A Naklua man’s new Facebook “friend” turned out to just the opposite when the Rangsit University student allegedly stole cash and electronics from his house.
Police arrested 23-year-old Chinathip Namwongwiriya after neighbors helped Soi Phothisan 4 resident Chaiwat Kitsana, 32, capture the young man after the alleged June 12 robbery. The third-year university student had Chaiwat’s laptop computer, mobile phone and 1,500 baht cash on him.
The Naklua man said he’d met Chinathip just a day before on Facebook and had invited him to stay at his house to help the student supposedly write a school paper on Pattaya.
But Chinathip hadn’t been there long when, while taking a shower, Chaiwat heard someone rummaging through his property. He told police he came out of the bath to see the arts student running out the door with his computer and phone. He quickly shouted for neighbors to catch the alleged thief.
Police claim Chinathip confessed to the robbery, saying he was simply greedy and took advantage of his new friend’s shower to steal from him.
