BANGKOK, 11 December 2014 -The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is actively pursuing its goal to establish Bangkok as the Metropolis of Learning.
Ms. Pranee Sattayaprakob, Director of the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Department, said the BMA aims to encourage public participation in reading activities and cultivate reading habit among Thais.
Temples, mosques and churches in Bangkok will be promoted as centers of knowledge in each community where people come to observe religious precepts and read in their spare time.
At present, the BMA runs thirty-seven public libraries in the city, seven mobile libraries, and 159 community-based libraries in forty districts.
Although Bangkok has already passed on its title as the “2013 World Book Capital” to Nigeria, it still moves forward to increase the number of libraries and reading zones across all corners of the city.
